Lee (Laurie)'s Story

Life Hi, Kids, I left school early in 01/1976. Graduated from San Jose State in 1986, with a BA in English, a Minor in Industrial Arts, and a Technical Writing Certificate. I had survived a bunch of childhood sexual abuse, teen depression, and 3 abortions by then. Been working as a technical information developer, a technical writer, ever since. I'm now at Saratoga Systems in Campbell, CA. In 1986, I married an outstanding gentleman, Bruce Miller. He was 52; I was 27. We added d'Armien to both of our last names, refering to a dream Bruce had about being a 12th century knight in Amiens, France/Belgium. We have been totally happily married since. Bruce posthumously adopted my first 3 children. In 1989, we welcomed to our only child, born 03/03/90, Elisabeth Erin d'Armien. Yep, she just turned 16 on 03/03/06. Between '94 and '96, I stayed home full-time raising Lis. That was the happiest time for our family. In 1996, Bruce and I became Catholics. The conversion was gut-wrenching and heart-rending, as most of our Christian friends expelled us from their lives. d accusation. My step-father once said I belonged in a war. And here I am. In 1999, I traveled to India as the Manager of Technical Publications. I addressed the St. Joseph's College MBA class in Balgalore, on the topic of how finance, marketing, and human resources functions interact with Technical Publications. That was the high point of my professional life. Although, working for the second time for the same outstanding manager, is a Godsend. In 2001, I was laid-off from my dotcom company. I worked as a church receptionist, bulletin editor, and religious education secretary. While I was unemployed for the next 11 months, I explored Primerica, received a Life and Health Insurance license, and worked at that business, while trying to ignore another depression. I worked as a senior cartaker, and as a health products consultant for Cocoon Nutrition until 2004, which I joined Saratoga Systems. I decided not to kill myself during the last depression because I wanted God to see what a mess of a human being he had made in me, for the rest of my natural life. And that's what I love about God: he takes what you give, and gives you back something better.
